    Elmer Eugene Capps, 84, of Princeton passed away at his home on Saturday, September 26, 2020. He was born in Johnston County on May 8, 1936 to the late Hubert Walton Capps and Clentis Wall Capps.

    The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the chapel of Casey Funeral Home and Cremations, 105 E. 1st Street, Princeton, NC.

    The funeral service will be held at 7:00 pm at Princeton United Methodist Church, 101 1st Street, Princeton, NC with the Reverend Cornelius Brantley and the Pastor Johnny Sullivan officiating. A Committal will be held in the Princeton Cemetery, 225 Dr. Donnie H. Jones, Jr. Blvd., Princeton, NC 27569.

    Mr. Capps was a member of the Princeton United Methodist Church serving in many capacities including Trustee, Board Chairman, Pastor Parrish, Finance Committee, Conference Lay Person and Sunday School Teacher. Serving the Lord was very important to him. He was also a retired fireman from the Princeton Fire Department and he served as the Johnston County Firemen’s Benevolence Fund Treasurer. Through the years, Mr. Capps was a Town of Princeton Commissioner and a Mayor Pro Tem. He was very active with the Future Farmers of America Association and had served as the Vice-President of the North Carolina Agriculture Teachers Association. Mr. Elmer was famously known for selling all kinds of plants at “Capps Corner”. He really enjoyed visiting and fellowshipping with the many customers he encountered at his business. He will be missed by many.

    Mr. Capps is survived by his wife Imogene Gurley Capps; son: Johnny Capps (Delaine); daughter: Julie Capps; sisters: Velma Weeks, Mildred Morgan, Verla Lewis, and Betsy Pearce; grandchildren: Heather Woodard (Josh), Nikki Daughtry (Dillon), Holly Capps; great grandchildren; Whitney Woodard and Lane Woodard.
