SELMA – Garland Ethro Jones, Jr., age 92, died Friday afternoon at The Landings of Smithfield after battling dementia for quite some time. He was born February 10, 1928 in Johnston County to the late Garland Ethro Jones, Sr. of Selma and the late Clara Lessie Bunn Jones of Selma. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Boykin Jones, sons: Dennis Gerald Jones and Donald Brent Jones, and sisters: Thelma Jones, Eloise Hinkle and Ola Mae Barnes. He worked for the N.C. Dept. of Transportation, Highway Division in Johnston County, for 40 years. He especially enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his family and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 pm on Tuesday, January 5, in Selma Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Ricky Anderson and Rev. Glen Brock officiating. The family asks that all in attendance follow normal Covid-19 precautions with masks and social distancing. For those not able to attend, the service will be streamed live on the Parrish Funeral Home Facebook page.
Surviving is his son Gary Anthony Jones of Selma, NC, grandsons Brian Wesley Jones of Las Vegas, NV and Don Christopher Jones of El Cajon, CA, brother, Dr. Ray O. Jones (Miriam), numerous nieces and nephews, and great-grandchildren.
The public may come by and pay their respects at the funeral home on Tuesday morning between the hours of 8:00 am and 12 noon.
