Parents Arrested For Child Abuse

SMITHFIELD – A Smithfield couple is facing several misdemeanor charges after police officers were called to a disturbance at a hotel on S. Equity Drive around 10:00am Monday, March 11.

According to police, the father, Christopher Earl Lewis, was holding a 1 year-old child in his arms when he was allegedly assaulted by the child’s mother, Dennisha Michelle Snead. While being assaulted, Lewis dropped the child on the floor then fell on top of the baby. The baby was not injured.

Police said the couples two other children, ages 2 and 6, were present, but not harmed.

Officers also allege the couple left all three children unattended for an extended period of time while they went to a store.

Lewis, age 26, of Sunrise Avenue, Smithfield was charged with misdemeanor child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Snead, age 30, of Sunrise Avenue, Smithfield was charged with misdemeanor child abuse, simple assault, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

They were transported to the Johnston County Jail. The three children were placed in the custody of the Department of Social Services.

    • I was just thinking the same thing and scrolled down to post that but I see you thought the same thing. Glad the children are ok but the parents need a good lesson by serving time. Leaving those little tykes alone while they went out. SICK!
