SMITHFIELD – Police are investigating a road rage incident reported Monday afternoon in the Smithfield city limits. It happened about 4:45pm on N. Brightleaf Boulevard near Canterbury Road.
Police said a young mother was operating her SUV on Brightleaf Boulevard when a car began tailgating. The suspect passed her SUV and while doing so, reportedly displayed a handgun out the window. Once in front of her SUV, the suspect slammed on the brakes. The victim avoided striking the car and immediately drove to a nearby convenience store parking lot for safety reasons.
The suspect followed the woman to the convenience store parking lot and drove past her vehicle slowly before driving away.
Police said the victim did not recognize the suspect, described as a black male in his mid- to late-20’s, operating a black four door sedan, possibly a Kia. The car also had tinted windows.
The 34 year-old woman and her three children, ages 1, 10, and 14, were not injured.

One option to consider is Windshield Dashcams. They can be purchased on Amazon for less than $100. This would have provided clear evidence for the police.
