The Johnston County Public School Board has approved the purchase of three new activity buses. Currently, JCPS has 62 activity buses in rotation that transport students to local events and athletic competitions.
Of the 62 buses in the fleet, 11 are more than twenty years old. And repairs for the 11 oldest buses are becoming more expensive.
The school board authorized the purchase of three activity buses at a cost of $267,000, or $89,000 each. The new buses will have improved fuel economy, reduced maintenance costs, greater ride capacity, and lower carbon emissions.
