JCC Announces Addition Of Women’s Volleyball Program

SMITHFIELD, N.C. – Johnston Community College is expanding its athletics program with the addition of women’s volleyball.
The new program will be led by Head Coach Sonya Harriott, who has been tasked with building the team ahead of its inaugural season. Harriott will be joined by Assistant Coaches Leonard Cunningham and Joe Rivera as the college begins recruiting student-athletes for competition in the upcoming year.
Athletic Director Kemionne Feely said the addition of volleyball reflects the college’s continued investment in athletics and student engagement.
“This is an exciting time for our Athletics program,” Feely said. “The addition of volleyball reflects our commitment to continued growth. We are confident in Coach Harriott and her staff to build a strong foundation for this program from day one.”
College officials said Harriott brings experience in player development, program building and competitive leadership, with a focus on helping student-athletes succeed both academically and athletically.
The women’s volleyball program becomes the newest intercollegiate sport offered at Johnston Community College and is expected to begin competition during the upcoming season. Recruitment efforts are already underway.
