Sex Offender Accused Of Indecent Exposure Incidents In Selma And Smithfield

JOHNSTON COUNTY — A Fayetteville man listed on the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry is in custody after police said he exposed himself to children inside retail businesses in Smithfield and Selma.

Jason Maurice Williams, 47, was arrested Wednesday afternoon by Selma police following incidents reported earlier this month.

According to Selma Police, Williams allegedly exposed himself to a 17-year-old girl inside the Old Navy store on St. Mark Avenue in Selma on Jan. 26.

Smithfield Police said Williams reportedly exposed himself and masturbated in front of two children, ages 2 and 6, that same day inside Bealls, located at 1229 N. Brightleaf Boulevard in Smithfield.

Jason Maurice Williams is on the NC Sex Offender Registry in Cumberland County. He has a lengthy criminal history and is a repeat offender, with approximately 30 charges related to indecent exposure in North and South Carolina dating back more than 20 years, police said.

Police in both Smithfield and Selma believe there could be additional victims and are asking anyone who may have had similar encounters to contact law enforcement. In all of the cases, Williams reportedly wore a toboggan, a face covering and mirrored sunglasses.

Smithfield Police can be reached at 919-934-2121. Selma Police can be reached at 919-965-8189.

Williams remains in custody in the Johnston County Detention Center.
