The driver of an SUV was injured after slamming into the back of an empty log truck on Interstate 95 Thursday evening.
The accident happened around 6:00 pm just north of the Keen Road exit in Four Oaks. Traffic was slowing in the northbound lanes for a construction zone when the SUV ran into the back of the slow-moving semi.
Emergency workers had to free the victim who was pinned in the crash. An off-duty emergency medical technician from Virginia happened upon the crash and provided medical aid to the driver until crews arrived on the scene.
The victim was rushed to Wake Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. Northbound lanes of I-95 was blocked for about an hour before the wreckage was removed and both lanes were allowed to reopen. Photos by John Payne
