The NC Highway Patrol is investigating a crash Sunday night in northern Johnston County that seriously injured a 19 year-old man.
The accident happened on Highway 231 near Highway 39. A Nissan ran off the roadway and struck a tree at a high rate of speed. The driver was pinned in the overturned car for more than an hour before he could be cut free by firefighters using hydraulic tools and saws. The driver sustained serious injuries to his lower extremities.
The Corinth Holders, Antioch and Zebulon Fire Departments, Johnston County EMS, Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and NC Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
After the victim was cut free he was airlifted to Duke University Medical Center.
The roadway was shut down until after 10:00pm until the wreckage was cleared and troopers completed their on-scene investigation. Photos by JoCoFire.com
