Town Of Selma Launches Fitness Court

SELMA — On Wednesday, August 23, the Town of Selma will officially unveil an outdoor Fitness Court on the grounds of the Richard B. Harrison Athletic Complex. This capital project is a featured part of the initiative launched by National Fitness Campaign (NFC), a nationwide wellness consulting firm that partners with municipalities and schools to plan, build, and fund healthy communities.

This year, the Town of Selma, along with dozens of other select recipients from around the country, were awarded a grant from NFC to help support the program. In addition to local funding, support from Johnston County Parks and Recreation and the Johnston County Visitors Bureau contributed to making the project possible in Selma.

“The Town of Selma is proud to be able to provide this impressive Fitness Court amenity for our citizens, stakeholders, and visitors,” said Mayor Byron James McAllister. “Wellness is an important part of a Town’s quality of life. This investment shows that the Town of Selma values health and fitness!”

The new Fitness Court® is the world’s best outdoor gym and allows users to leverage their own body weight to get a complete workout using seven stations. Created for adults ages 14 and older, the Fitness Court is adaptable for all fitness levels. Users can also download the free Fitness Court App—a coach-in-your-pocket style platform—that transforms the world’s best outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness experience.

“We are excited to have the Town of Selma join us in the journey to health and wellness as we make a positive impact building Healthy Infrastructure across America,” said Mitch Menaged, Founder of National Fitness Campaign. “The addition of the Fitness Court® along with ongoing engagement in healthy lifestyles demonstrates a tremendous commitment to the community.”

The community is invited to attend the Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening Event at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 23rd, at the Richard B. Harrison Athletic Complex, located at 601 W Noble Street, Selma. Local ambassadors will be onsite to provide fitness
demonstrations across the court, followed by a friendly Town competition between the Selma Fire and Selma Police Departments.

  1. Yet another waste of taxpayer money. This town’s administrations should be looked into. They have taken away after school programs, sports, (because they’ve ran through multipole Parks and Rec department heads), not to mention ALL the other departments that have lost employees. (including Admin) I mean come on, there is a common denominator here. The Council and Mayor McAllister are clueless as to what this town needs. Spending millions of dollars on buying worthless builds and empty lots for so-called further projects. Meanwhile taking away youth program’s that actual benefited the town’s youth and helped low income families. But they don’t care about that. Only the “wealthy” side of town matters to these people and Everyone inside the town’s limits should be very concerned as to how its tax and utility dollars are being spent!
