Troopers Searching For Vehicle Involved In Fatal Hit And Run Accident

SMITHFIELD – Law enforcement officers are searching for a vehicle involved a fatal hit and run accident.

Just before 11:00pm Thursday, a bicyclist was struck and killed on Braswell Road, east of Smithfield.

The male victim was carrying no identification, and not wearing a helmet or any reflective clothing. At last report, the victim had not been identified.

The bicycle was struck from behind by a vehicle that failed to stop at the scene.

Based on information from an eyewitness, and broken car parts found at the scene, authorities are searching for a bluish SUV, which may have a broken headlight and other damage.

Anyone with information about the hit and run vehicle, or its driver, is asked to contact the State Highway Patrol.
