Update: Troopers Identify Pedestrian Killed On Highway 70

UPDATE SUNDAY 7:10PM – The State Highway Patrol has identified the pedestrian killed on Highway 70 as Travis Leon Rogers, 30, of Raleigh.

CLAYTON – State troopers are investigating a crash Friday night that claimed the life of a pedestrian.  Around 8:50pm, the victim crashed a silver 2002 Toyota passenger car into a guardrail and traveled down a steep embankment into the woodline on the Highway 70 Clayton Bypass near the Ranch Road Exit.  The man exited his car and apparently began walking in the westbound lanes of the Bypass where he was struck by a westbound 2015 Kia SUV driven by a Kinston woman. The Kia SUV stopped at the scene and the driver called 911.

Moments later, a 2018 Ford SUV driven by a Maysville, NC woman struck the pedestrian in the roadway. The Ford SUV did not stop until the driver arrived at her destination in Raleigh and noticed damage to her vehicle. She contacted the Highway Patrol and returned to the scene.  Troopers believe the pedestrian was deceased from the collision with the first SUV.  No charges are anticipated to be filed.

State troopers have not been able to identify the deceased pedestrian.  They contacted the registered owner of the Toyota he was driving. The owner stated that he sold the vehicle a month ago and did not know the name of the buyer.

The victim is a black male in his mid-20’s to early 30’s with a tattoo of the words “TRAP” on his left arm.  He has long-braided hair and a goatee. He was wearing white shorts and flip flops.

Anyone who has information on the identity of the pedestrian is asked to contact Highway Patrol Sgt. Sean Bridges at the Smithfield District Office at 919-934-2186 or by dialing *HP(47).
