Update: Wake Deputies Charge Father With Child Abuse

UPDATE 9:00pm – After interviewing neighbors and witnesses, Wake County Sheriff’s investigators have charged the children’s father, Darren Wayne Karie with two counts of misdemeanor child abuse. He is currently in the Wake County Detention Center, with a bond set at $25,000.

GARNER – The Wake County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) has opened an investigation after a caller stated that two young children walked into their home this morning.

Shortly before 10 a.m., deputies responded to the 7700 block of Trudy Lane off White Oak Road in Garner, after a caller stated that a 2-year-old female and a 4-year-old male appeared at their residence.

According to witnesses, the female child was not clothed, covered in mud and had visible cuts on her body. The 4-year-old did not have any cuts. The children were transported to WakeMed for observation.

After a lengthy search, the father of the children was located at a home on the same street and stated he was sleep and his wife was at work.

The WCSO Criminal Investigation Division has responded to the scene, as well as Wake County Protective Services.

No charges have been filed at this time.
