N.C. Board of Transportation member Michael Fox lead the ceremony at Valle Crucis Community Park, highlighting the importance of these dedications.

“These dedications embody our commitment to honoring and remembering our fallen heroes — especially law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our state,” Michael Fox said. “I believe I can speak for us all when I say that the citizens of Watauga County and the state of North Carolina are grateful for the public servants, such as Deputy Fox, who make the ultimate sacrifice to protect their families, friends, and communities every day.”

Born in Wellington, Florida, Fox moved to Beech Mountain with his family as a teenager. A Watauga High School graduate, Fox graduated as valedictorian from the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program at Wilkes Community College in 2017.

The Ashe County Sheriff’s Office recruited Fox to join their ranks on graduation day. During his two-year career there, he was partnered with K-9 Raven. The two joined the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office in 2019.
