Clayton Invites Residents To Reflect On 25 Years Since 9/11

CLAYTON, N.C. – The Town of Clayton will hold a remembrance ceremony Sept. 11 to mark the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Municipal Park, 325 McCullers Street. The event is free and open to the public.

Members of Clayton Area Runners will begin the morning by carrying an American flag around Municipal Park before arriving at the ceremony.

An Honor Guard will present the colors, followed by the National Anthem and a moment of silence.

Local leaders are scheduled to offer remarks, and a tolling of the bells will honor those killed and others whose lives were changed by the attacks.

The town is also asking residents to share personal memories of Sept. 11 through its “Remembering 9/11: Share Your Story” project.

Residents may submit recollections of where they were, what they experienced or moments from that day that have remained with them during the past 25 years.

Selected submissions may be featured during the remembrance ceremony as part of an effort to preserve local memories of the attacks for younger generations.

The Sept. 11, 2001 attacks killed nearly 3,000 people in New York City, at the Pentagon and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
