Johnston County Commissioners have approved the purchase of three new ambulances for Johnston County EMS.

Josh Holloman, EMS Division Chief, said the three ambulances would replace current front line units and maintain the ability to meet an increased call volume and demand for service.

Three companies submitted bids for the ambulances.

Atlantic Emergency Solutions of Colfax, NC bid $185,225 per ambulance. Select Custom Apparatus of Falkland, NC bid $160,314.68 for each unit. Northwest Emergency Vehicle of West Jefferson, NC submitted the low bid of $155,998.

Holloman said Johnston County has purchased their last two ambulances from Northwest Emergency Vehicle and requested to purchase the three additional ambulances from the company.

Commissioners agreed to spend $467,994 for the 3 ambulances. The money was also set aside for the purchase in the current fiscal year budget.
