Deputies Bust Illegal Gambling Operation, Seize Drugs, Moonshine And Cash

BENSON, N.C. — An undercover investigation led to the discovery of an illegal gambling operation and a large quantity of narcotics at a Johnston County home Wednesday afternoon, deputies said.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, working with agents from North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 800 block of Drag Strip Road, off N.C. 242 South.

According to the sheriff’s office, Danny Bruce Allen was reportedly using his private property to operate illegal video gambling machines and to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine.

When deputies arrived to serve the warrant, Allen allegedly attempted to flee through the back door while carrying narcotics but was quickly taken into custody.

During the search, investigators reported seizing approximately:

  • 197 grams of cocaine
  • 160 grams of crystal methamphetamine
  • 52 grams of oxycodone
  • 58 gallons of moonshine
  • An undisclosed amount of cash

Allen is facing numerous charges. The investigation remains ongoing.
