SELMA, N.C. — Families will have a chance to get an up-close look at one of the region’s most recognizable emergency response aircraft this weekend when Eastfield hosts a free community safety event featuring a landing by a Duke Life Flight helicopter.

The event will take place Saturday, June 13, beginning at noon at Eastfield in Selma. The helicopter is scheduled to land in front of Old Navy, giving visitors a rare opportunity to see the critical care aircraft up close and meet the flight crew and other first responders.

The family-friendly event will also feature interactive displays and emergency vehicles from several local agencies and organizations.

Representatives from Johnston County EMS will be on hand, along with a special appearance by Mearle the JoCo Preparedness Squirrel. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet personnel from the Selma Police Department, Selma Fire Department, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office SAFE Team, and the Boys & Girls Club of Johnston County.

Organizers say the event is designed to bring the community together while highlighting the work performed every day by emergency responders and public safety professionals throughout Johnston County.

The event is free and open to the public.

Eastfield is a 435-acre mixed-use development located along Interstate 95 in Selma. The development’s retail center is anchored by a 129,000-square-foot Target store and continues to attract new businesses. Earlier this week, Men’s Wearhouse opened its first Johnston County location at Eastfield. The store will hold an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, June 19, at 10 a.m.

  1. That’s really cool. Benson use to do this back in the day at Community Day. They had three helicopters one year.
