Update: Police Arrest Suspect For Shooting Employee At Clayton Business

UPDATE 6:05AM MONDAY – Clayton Police announced Richard Ben Cappelletti, age 46, of Clayton, has been arrested and charged with Armed Robbery and Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury for the shooting that occurred at the Vape and Tobacco World. He is currently being held at the Johnston County Jail under a $250,000 bond.

UPDATE 9:00PM Sunday – Clayton Police have released surveillance photos of a suspect wanted for the shooting of an employee at the Vape and Tobacco World. Police Chief Greg Tart said the suspect (pictured) got into an altercation with an employee, pulled out a handgun, and shot the victim.

The suspect left the store driving a dark color Toyota Camry. The car was last seen traveling eastbound on Highway 70.

CLAYTON – An employee at a Clayton business was shot Sunday afternoon. The shooting happened around 4:25pm at Vape and Tobacco World at 11801 US 70 Business in the Lowe’s Foods Shopping Center.

One of the business owners said an employee was involved in a verbal dispute with a customer. The dispute escalated into a physical confrontation at which time the customer allegedly shot the employee. The suspect fled before police arrived.

The employee was transported to WakeMed with unknown injuries.

Clayton Police confirmed an employee at Vape and Tobacco World was shot. Police said there was no threat to the public. No information about the alleged gunman has been released at this time.
