GPS Tracker Leads To Arrest In Jobsite Theft
JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — A construction worker is facing charges after deputies say a hidden tracking device was used to locate a window stolen from a new home construction site.

The theft occurred Feb. 21 at a jobsite on Springtooth Drive near Zebulon in northern Johnston County. Authorities said a newly purchased construction window valued at about $200 was taken from the site.
Unbeknownst to the suspect, a tracking device had been concealed by the builder inside the window packaging. Investigators said the device led them to an address in Harnett County, where the window was recovered.
On March 9, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office charged Ferando Cruz Morales, 32, of Sunshine Lane in Angier, with misdemeanor larceny.
Deputies said Morales reportedly claimed he had permission to take the window. However, the victim told authorities they did not know Morales and had not authorized anyone to remove materials from the worksite.
Morales is a construction worker but was not part of the crew working on the home where the window was taken. He was released on a $500 secured bond.
