I-40 Chase Ends With Crash And Discovery Of Drugs, More Than $20,000 In Cash

SAMPSON COUNTY – A motorist involved in a two county chase on Interstate 40 is facing a long list of charges.

Around 1:30pm Wednesday, a Sampson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team deputy observed a silver Honda CRV traveling on I-40. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle for a window tint violation.

The driver failed to yield and continued eastbound on I-40 into Duplin County. The suspect exited off I-40 at Warsaw then drove back westbound on I-40 into Sampson County.

The suspect turned onto several rural roadways before losing control on Dave Bryant Road and striking a small fence.

The suspect, Yonathon Collado-Tejada, 34, of Bolivia, NC was taken into custody.

During a search of the Honda, approximately 12 pounds of marijuana, 180 grams of THC, drug paraphernalia, and more than $20,000 in cash was located.

Collado-Tejada was charged with multiple offenses including felony speeding to elude arrest, failure to stop for lights and siren, improper passing, reckless driving, window tint violation, trafficking marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and damage to property.

He was held under a $100,000 bond at the Sampson County Detention Center.

  1. They never learn with the window tint and speeding. You would think that people who are transporting drugs would take extra precautions to avoid getting caught.

  2. How is it that the trash that runs from the law almost always seems to survive the crash. This person could not care the first thing about the people that his drugs could have killed or the LEOs that could have been killed in the chase or even an innocent person just driving along. Now our tax dollars have to pay to keep this lowlife in jail. He just should have hit a tree and done the world a favor and gone to he$%. I know that some of you do not agree with how I feel but it is how I feel.
