Interim City Manager Dies At 40

DUNN – Mathew Boone, Dunn’s interim city manager, died Wednesday evening of a sudden heart attack at his home. He was 40 years old.
His death sent a wave of grief through the city Thursday morning.
City leaders sent the following statement after learning of his death:
“Mayor William P. Elmore Jr. and the Dunn City Council Members are deeply saddened and dismayed by the untimely death of Mr. Boone. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends as well as to the men and women in our City of Dunn offices who have worked with Mathew so closely over the past five years.
“Mr. Boone began his career with the City of Dunn as assistant city manager on Sept. 24, 2018 after working seven years as the senior planner for the City of Raleigh Community Development and five years in Raleigh’s inspection as their housing/environmental inspector. Mr. Boone was named the interim city manager on June 1, 2023.
“He is survived by his wife, Michelle of more than 13 years and three beautiful children, Piper, Cannon and Carter. This is a tremendous loss for our City and our staff.”
Boone lived in Knightdale with his family and was a graduate of North Wesleyan University, where he studied law.

Gee why are all these young men having heart attacks and dying? No clue…
Been happening for decades actually – way before conspiracy theory, science denying magadonians infested the earth. The diet of many people down here ( everywhere in reality) is really unhealthy, plus a lot still smoke. Look at the sodium levels in your food. Way more than what is healthy. Fast food is a slow killer. Sausage and bacon – no one needs that stuff. Also sodas are killing people. My spouse lost his father to a sudden heart attack – he father was 39, in the 1960s. Is this because of the vaccine that wasn’t around yet? I can name dozens of people who have passed away because of sudden cardiac arrest and it was way before the vaccine. So please stop with your nonsense. We really must come up with a way to deal with people who continually spread lies and misinformation. It has ruined the US – some lies almost lead into an authoritarian rule, but thankfully we have more saner people than maga fascist in the US. But they still roam among us….. and they still spew lies . People have been dying of sudden cardiac arrest longer than there have been vaccines – deal with it. Arteries clog, or maybe he had whatever happened to John Ritter – some type of tear. Or my own dad who had his first heart attack very young (45) and had many, many more over a decade before passing away. All of this before the covid vaccine.

So many young people dying lately of heart attacks. It’s very sad!
So sorry to hear about Matt’s passing. He was a great guy. Sad to say but the stress of his job was possibly a factor. I worked there over 30 years before retiring. Prayers for his family.
