Man Accused Of Burning Utility Pole

Criminal charges have been filed against a Smithfield man who allegedly admitted to setting fire to a Town of Smithfield utility pole.  The Smithfield Fire Department responded to the blaze around 6:00am Thursday in the 300 block of N. Sixth Street.

According to police, Robert Lewis Davis, 59, of the 300 block of N. Sixth Street, reportedly got into a disagreement with an acquaintance and intentionally set fire to some of their belongings adjacent to a utility pole.  The fire caused an estimated $500 damage to the pole.

Davis was arrested by Smithfield Police for felony burning personal property and misdemeanor injury to property. He was held on a $5,000 bond at the Johnston County Jail.
