Motorists OK After Vehicles Strike Tree In Roadway

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued Wednesday evening as strong storms accompanied by gusty winds moved through Johnston County. The National Weather Service said the storms had the capability of producing 60 mph wind gusts.

There were several reports of downed trees in the Four Oaks, Meadow and Elevation communities due to the high winds.

On Webb Mill Road near Stewart Road, at least two vehicles struck a tree that fell across the highway.  One driver said the tree fell in front of her and she could not stop in time.  Everyone made it out of the vehicles unharmed including a pregnant dog.

The Strickland’s Crossroads Fire Department responded to Webb Mill Road to remove the downed tree. The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office detoured traffic until the roadway could be reopened.
