George M. Malakatis, 92, passed away on October 11, 2020. George was the beloved husband of Judith for 42 years. He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn Coleman; Son-in-law, Brian; Son, Gus; Sister, Goldie Schindling; Brother-in-law, Lawrence; two granddaughters, and one great grand-son. Preceded in death by his brother, Jack Malakatis.
George retired from the U.S Navy with 20 years of service and USDA with another 19 years of service. He did parasitological research accomplishing awards, co-authorship of many scientific published articles with the high honor of having a parasite named after him. He spent several years in Taiwan and 7 years in Egypt, and the NIH, Bethesda, MD. This research was to ultimately improve lives of humans. In his young life he was a volunteer fireman in Bladensburg, MD. His smile and friendliness will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, DC.
