One Critically Injured In Interstate 95 Crash

DUNN — One person was critically injured Tuesday afternoon in a crash on Interstate 95 near Dunn involving a passenger vehicle and a tractor-trailer.

Dunn Emergency Services was dispatched to the 71-mile marker, where responders found a Kia Optima with severe damage after it rear ended the corner of a tractor-trailer.

The driver of the Kia was transported to Betsy Johnson Hospital in critical condition to meet a medical helicopter for transport to a trauma center.

According to a preliminary investigation, the tractor-trailer was stopped along with other motorists because of a separate accident about a mile ahead. Authorities believe the driver of the Kia approached the stopped traffic and was unable to stop in time.

The crash remains under investigation.
