One Dead Following Domestic-Related Shooting In Kenly
KENLY, N.C. – A 19-year-old man died following a shooting in Kenly that police say stemmed from a domestic dispute inside a residence.
According to the Kenly Police Department, officers responded to a reported shooting around 10:00 p.m. Wednesday on W. Fourth Street involving 54-year-old Tamiko T. Shearin and 19-year-old Tony Curtis Stephens III.
Investigators said Shearin was in a dating relationship with 42-year-old Tony Curtis Stephens Jr., the father of Stephens III. Police allege an argument broke out between Shearin and the younger Stephens during the incident.

Authorities said Shearin allegedly fired a gun during the confrontation, striking Stephens III in the upper abdomen.
Stephens III was transported by Johnston County EMS and airlifted to WakeMed for emergency treatment. He later died from his injuries.
Following the investigation, Shearin was charged with voluntary manslaughter and is being held without bond on that charge.
During the course of the investigation, Kenly Police obtained and executed a search warrant at the residence connected to the shooting. Investigators said illegal controlled substances were located inside the home.
As a result, Shearin was also charged with maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, possession with intent to sell and deliver a controlled substance, felony possession of a controlled substance, and simple possession of marijuana. Bond on those charges was set at $50,000 secured.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the investigation.
“This is a sad situation, and our hearts go out to the family members affected by this tragedy,” said Kenly Police Chief James Ayers.
