WILSON’S MILLS – Wilson’s Mills Police say a father fatally shot a man who had just reportedly tried to accost his daughter. The shooting happened on Father’s Day in the Wilson’s Mills city limits.

Wilson’s Mills Police, aided by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, responded to Parker Street, at 9:03pm Sunday, for a report of a breaking and entering in progress with someone shot.

Chief A.Z. Williams said, based on the preliminary investigation, the suspect entered the backyard of the home where children were playing outside. The suspect allegedly tried to accost an 11 year-old girl. Other children ran inside the home and alerted the mother and father.

Police said the suspect attempted to follow the children into the residence by pulling on the back door handle and shaking it violently.

The homeowner and father shot the 23 year-old suspect who died from his injuries. The name of the suspect is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Chief Williams said this appears to be a case of a father protecting his family. The suspect was unknown to the family.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office processed the scene and is investigating the deadly encounter. Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Caldwell said Monday the investigation remains ongoing, with the assistance of the Johnston County District Attorney’s Office.

  1. And THAT is Joco justice!! Way long overdue for us to TAKE BACK our homes our safety and PROTECT OUR CHILDREN AND OURSELVES!!!

  2. Finally a story with a justification to the ending. Seems good to know the old ways are still with us. Congratulations to the alert parent.

  3. This is a great report with a happy ending. The man that was shot or I will refer him as the pig, wont be hurting anyone else. Dad, you did a great job.

  4. Probably not a good idea to let your young kids be playing outside at 9pm at night (bedtime anyone)…but this is how a father protects his own. This is also why our 2nd amendment rights are absolutely vital to a civil and orderly society. And speaking of the contrary, I wonder if our resident communist cell will be protesting this.

    • At 9 pm it’s still light out and they were in their backyard, a place that is considered by many to be private and safe. This father and the kids will be traumatized for a long time due to the deviant behavior of this perp. I’m glad the dad was able to protect his kids.

        • Brett,
You obviously are not from around here and if you are, your parents deprived you deeply of some of the best times in normal children’s lives.

This is how those in the right get blamed. The victim is cast as the instigator by being out past 9 (in their own yard) and the aggressor is treated as “the poor dead guy” who wouldn’t have been tempted had the kids not been outside.

NOT DOWN HERE FELLA! Those of us who would defend our children to the death without hesitation, teach our children to be just like us. Hope you run fast, because according to your thinking-we will be reading your obituary not the bad guy.

        • My wife and I home schooled our kids and we worked off shift so our kids were up very late and woke up late, year round. Not sure why you think your opinion about how other people raise their kids is more valid than the actual parent.

  5. That must have been extremely traumatic for those kids and the father who shot the perp. I imagine they will all have PTSD for quite some time. Also, there is a family mourning the loss of their 23 year old relative. Sad situation all around.

      • @Oops – it doesn’t make me a communist to empathize with the parents of a child who took a wrong path, while sympathizing with the victims. Oy vey!
