Police: Extension Cord Leads To Arrest In Break-In Case

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A Smithfield man is facing charges after police say he broke into a vacant home and used an extension cord to access electricity.

Michael Wayne Buie, 68, of the 800 block of Brogden Road, was charged with felony breaking and entering and misdemeanor reconnecting utilities.

According to Smithfield police, officers responded around 9:34 p.m. March 27 after a property owner reported a break-in at a neighboring vacant residence.

Investigators said the home had been entered and an electrical drop cord had been run from the property to a nearby residence.

Police allege Buie, who did not have electricity connected at his home, was using the cord to obtain power from the vacant house.

Buie was arrested and held under a $25,000 bond.

  1. I had to pleasure to meet this old man in jail and I’m gonna tell you what this is bulls**t. The man plugged the cord into the wall now that might be still electricity, but they’re trying to give him three years. That’s some f**king bulls**t and I’m just keeping it real he’s a good old man. He just was in bad times man the neighbor should cut him a break and put him pay for the electric use but now he’s gotta be with his family for plugging accordion America wooo

    • Where did you get your grammar and spelling lessons from? where did you learn your morals? Oh wait. I bet it was in jail.

    • His criminal history is a huge reason for his high bond.

      – Assault on a female – Convicted
      – Many larceny convictions
      – Felony breaking & entering – Convicted
      – Resisting arrest – Convicted
      – Speeding to elude arrest – Convicted

The list goes on and on. He also spent time in prison in 2007. This guy is not the “angel” that some people are trying to make him out to be. Just a little research reveals a lot of information.

  2. Now how you mad cause he stealing electricity lol not one crook protecting the other I Done seen and heard it All

  3. They aren’t even given child abusers 3 years
For starving kids and beating them and locking them in dog cages with feces
Three years for plugging into a wall
    Wow unbelievable

  4. Sad, this man needs some help not jail time, social services need to intervene and find him a safe place to live or help him get assistance for electricity for his home. My electric bill was $1200 in November December and I’m still trying to get that paid off. It’s been hard for us all.

  5. What is up with his high bond???? Yes what he did was wrong but for the live of God his bond is higher that drug dealers and child predators. SMH something definitely wrong here!!!

    • Since you didn’t see my comment above…

  6. The electric companies are the real thieves. They charge what they want to and we are expected to pay.
