Rylie Key Receives $5,000 Scholarship

GARNER, N.C. – A Garner student has been awarded a $5,000 scholarship from the Civic Foundation to help continue her education at Elon University.

Rylie Key is one of 25 high school seniors across North Carolina selected to receive the one-year scholarship.

Key said the award will help her attend what she described as her dream school.

“This scholarship helps me to attend my dream school, Elon University,” Key said. “Elon is a private school that specializes in small class sizes and experiential learning. This is the environment that I thrive in and will help me to become the best teacher that I can for children that learn in different environments.”

The Civic Foundation is supported by Civic Federal Credit Union and awards scholarships to high school seniors planning to attend a community college or four-year college or university.

According to the foundation, more than $3 million has been awarded for scholarships and professional development since the program was established.

“Educational investment in our student members continues to be one of the most gratifying programs within Civic Foundation,” Chief Impact Officer Ashley Ruffin said.

Applications for scholarships for the 2027 school year are scheduled to open Oct. 1 and remain available through Feb. 1, 2027.

Additional information is available through the Civic Foundation website.
