School Board Eliminates 50 Positions

Employees Will Fill Vacant Positions
New Principals Named

The Johnston County School Board eliminated 50 positions during a Personnel Meeting held on Thursday, May 30th.

”As we have continued to plan for the 2019-2020 school year and work within the projected budget, it was necessary to eliminate the following positions: 7 Operations Directors and 43 Teaching and Learning Coaches,” Crystal Kimpson Roberts, Chief of Communication and Engagement said Monday. “While the positions are being eliminated, the employees will maintain employment within the school system by filling vacant positions.”

Also, during the personnel meeting Superintendent Dr. Ross Renfrow requested several principal transfers, all of which were approved by the school board.

Heather Anders, Principal at Smithfield Middle School, will become the new Principal at North Johnston Middle School.  Current North Johnston Middle Principal Kenneth Sumler will become the Site Administrator of Choice Plus.

Four Oaks Middle Principal Tol Avery will become the new Principal at North Johnston High. Ben Williams, who is the current Principal at North Johnston High, has been named the Director of Academic Innovation.

Riverwood Middle Principal Jamie Stoke has been transferred to Principal at Cooper Academy.  All the principal transfers will take effect on July 1, 2019.

Chris Germanoski received a four-year contract as Assistant Principal at McGee’s Crossroads Middle School.  He had been the principal at Selma Middle School.

Lauren Watkins was named Assistant Principal at Corinth Holders High and James Turner the Assistant Principal at South Johnston High.
