Selma Police Quickly Round Up Juveniles Linked To Car Break-Ins

SELMA, N.C. — A series of overnight vehicle break-ins in Selma ended with four juveniles in custody after officers quickly responded to reports of the crimes early Sunday morning.

Selma Police Chief Justin Vause said officers were dispatched after multiple vehicle break-ins were reported on Webb Street, Lizzie Street, Raiford Street, Walnut Street and River Road.

Responding officers located several juveniles in the area. Four juveniles, all 14 – 15 years old, were taken into custody, and juvenile petitions were obtained charging them in connection with the investigation.

Police said miscellaneous items were stolen from several vehicles.

“I am proud of our officers for their swift response and hard work in addressing these vehicle break-ins,” Chief J. Vause said. “I also want to remind residents to make locking their vehicles part of their daily routine. A locked vehicle and the removal of valuables can go a long way in preventing crimes of opportunity.”

Vause urged anyone who discovered their vehicle had been entered over the weekend but has not yet reported it to contact the Selma Police Department.

The investigation remains ongoing, and Chief Vause said additional charges are possible as detectives work to determine whether the juveniles may be connected to other cases.

  1. If they just had strong father figure in the home. Good work by the Selma Police Department and thank you Chief Vause for leading the department. You all do a good job of keeping residents of Selma safe.

  2. It should be required to publish the parents’ names when juveniles are arrested or cited. The public deserves to know who is responsible for these future felons.

  3. In my opinion their parents need to be held responsible for these kids’ actions and pay restitution to the victims. it’s a parent’s responsibility to know where their child is.

  4. Let me just be honest. I wouldn’t trust Selma PD to find a lost dog or cat. Now, if this were other departments in JoCo or The Sheriff’s office I would not question it. However, Selma…come on y’all, look at their track record. But sure, they so solved the car break-ins. Be so for real. 😂

  5. Parenting is a life long commitment, I’ve got some approaching fifty and I’m still on the job, they don’t require quite as much attention now days, but occasionally a refresher is justified, the grands and the greats need a bit more guidance, they aren’t perfect by any means but when granny or papa speak, they listen, they don’t talk back, we’ve never permitted it, don’t plan on changing now. When you see us out, you’ll see kids from 3-50 enjoying life and family that are thoughtful disciplined and respectful as it should be.
