Smithfield Firefighters Participate In Smoke Alarm Saturday

The Smithfield Fire Department participated in Smoke Alarm Saturday on June 7, 2025.

Local fire departments across the country went to homes checking the efficiency of smoke alarms and replaced or provided new smoke alarms.

In Smithfield, fire personnel visited numerous homes including the residence of Linda Crowder.

Firefighters also tested existing alarms and provided critical fire safety education.

Smithfield Fire Chief Jeremey Daughtry said, “Working smoke alarms give families precious seconds to escape during a fire and they truly save lives. Smoke Alarm Saturday gives us a valuable opportunity to reach our residents directly and make our community safer.”

The new smoke detectors installed by Smithfield Fire are designed to last 10 years without having to replace the battery.
