Smithfield Woman Charged After Missing Package Recovered
SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A Smithfield woman was arrested after police said she took a package containing children’s learning tablets that had been mistakenly delivered to a neighboring apartment.
April Jean Durbin, 44, of Kay Drive was charged June 22 with misdemeanor larceny.

The charge stems from an incident reported earlier that day by a 34-year-old woman who told police two children’s learning tablets had been delivered to her former apartment address. When she went to retrieve the package, it was gone.
Police said they reviewed security camera footage and later questioned Durbin about the missing delivery.
According to a police spokesperson, Durbin initially denied any knowledge of the package. However, officers said she later admitted the tablets were inside her apartment and surrendered the items to police.
The recovered tablets were valued at $87.53.
Durbin was taken into custody and later released on a $5,000 unsecured bond. She is scheduled to appear in Johnston County District Court on the charge.
