$12,000 Stolen In Prize Scam
SMITHFIELD – An elderly Smithfield woman lost a large sum of money in a prize scam. The victim was contacted through her Facebook account by a person pretending to be friends of her deceased husband.
The scammer told the victim she had won a large cash prize. To claim her winnings she was instructed to pay a $12,000 fee to cover taxes and processing fees.
The victim paid the money. When she didn’t receive her winnings and lost contact with the person who contacted her on social media, she realized it was a scam.
The $12,000 the victim sent the fraudster could not be recovered.

They cannot get the money back because they are operating geographically in another country on American networks. Yes, this poor lady should have known better, but we don’t know her mental state or those around her. These fraudulent organizations could be stopped in less than an hour by Space Force, CIA, and/or the FBI…but nothing happens.
