BENSON – Seven people were transported to area hospitals following a serious two vehicle accident Thursday afternoon. The collision was reported around 4:30pm on US Highway 301 South (South Wall Street) at Chicopee Road in Benson.
Benson Police said a black passenger car traveling on Chicopee Road pulled from a stop sign into the path of a white Kia minivan traveling northbound on Highway 301 South. The black car came to rest in the ditch with the driver trapped in the wreckage. The driver was extricated by Benson Fire personnel and transported by Johnston County EMS to the hospital.
The minivan traveled off the roadway to the left into a wooded area. Six people in the minivan were injured and taken by ambulance to area hospitals.
Highway 301 was closed for about 90 minutes before the roadway fully reopened.
