Driver And Passenger Arrested After High Speed Pursuit

WAYNE COUNTY – Two men were arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office DWI Task Force after a brief pursuit ended with a collision. The driver, Rahsaan Saleed Curry Jr., 20, of E. Lenoir Avenue, Kinston, and a passenger, Malachi Deshawn O’Neal, 20, of Godwin Lane, Selma were arrested.

On June 23, DWI Task Force deputies attempted to stop a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on the Highway 70 Bypass. The driver failed to stop for officers and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle crashed while traveling in the 1300 block of South George Street in Goldsboro.

Deputies said Curry jumped and ran from the wrecked car. He was captured after a brief foot pursuit. O’Neal, the passenger, was still inside the vehicle. He was reportedly found to have a stolen gun in his possession.

Curry was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, carrying a concealed handgun, resisting a public officer, driving after consuming under age 21, reckless driving to endanger, no operator’s license, speeding, and traveling the wrong way on a highway. He was held on a $10,000 secured bond.

O’Neal was charged with felony possession of a stolen firearm and carrying a concealed handgun. He was held on a $6,500 secured bond.

Goldsboro Police and the NC State Highway Patrol assisted Wayne County deputies. No injuries were reported.
