Affordable Grocery Program Making Stops In Clayton This Month

CLAYTON, N.C. – As students begin summer break and school meal programs pause for the season, a mobile market offering discounted groceries will make several stops in Clayton this month.

The Ripe for Revival and Brightspeed pay-what-you-can mobile market provides fresh produce, meat and pantry staples at prices organizers say are approximately 30 percent below traditional retail costs.

The program is designed to help families facing increased grocery expenses during the summer months when children are no longer receiving meals at school.

The mobile market will visit Clayton on three Mondays in June at 411 N. Fayetteville Street. Scheduled dates and times are:

• June 15, from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.

• June 22, from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.

• June 29, from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Organizers said the market is open to the public and operates on a pay-what-you-can model intended to increase access to fresh food and household staples.

The initiative comes as many families face higher food costs during the summer break, when school cafeterias are closed and children who receive free or reduced-price meals during the school year may lose access to a regular source of nutrition.

Ripe for Revival and Brightspeed partner to bring the mobile market to communities across North Carolina, helping connect residents with affordable food options closer to home.
