Clayton Swim School, Fire Department Hosting Free Water Safety Event For Children

CLAYTON, N.C. — As summer approaches and families begin spending more time around pools and lakes, a local swim school and fire department are partnering to help children learn potentially lifesaving water safety skills.

Alligator Steps Swim School and the Clayton Fire Department will host a free Water Safety Event for children ages 3 to 12 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, at Alligator Steps Swim School, located at 1130 W. Main St. in Clayton.

The family-friendly event will feature five interactive water safety stations in the pool, where children will rotate through hands-on activities focused on teaching important safety techniques designed to help them stay safer in and around the water.

Each child will receive a “passport” to collect stamps after completing each station. Participants who complete all activities will earn the title of “Water Safety Hero.”

The Clayton Fire Department will also bring a fire truck to the event, giving children and families an opportunity to explore the vehicle while learning about life jacket safety and other water-related safety practices.

“This event is our way of giving back to the community while reinforcing the importance of water safety education,” said Stephanie Wilder, director of Alligator Steps Swim School. “We want every child to feel more confident and prepared around the water this summer.”

Organizers said the event is intended to provide families with a fun, supportive environment where children can build confidence and develop practical water safety habits before the busy summer swimming season begins.

The event is free, but registration is encouraged.
