Driver Involved In Wrong-Way Pursuit Overturns Vehicle After Striking Patrol Car

PRINCETON – A 33 year-old man is facing a long list of charges following a high speed chase with law enforcement officers.

Just after 3:00am Sunday, a Johnston County deputy sheriff was on US 70 near Princeton and spotted a speeding 2007 Cadillac. The officer got behind the car, which had slowed to approximately 42 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone.

The deputy turned on his blues lights to stop the vehicle as it turned from US 70 onto Martin Livestock Road. The driver failed to stop, sped up, and turned onto Progressive Church Road, Brogden Road, then back onto US 70 as he fled from officers.

While on US 70, authorities said the driver, identified as Monreco Mondrell Goldston of Durham, began traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes, reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour.

The chase made its way onto Buffalo Road then M. Durwood Stephenson Highway. While traveling at approximately 70 miles per hour, Goldston changed lanes and struck the side of a Johnston County Sheriff’s Office Dodge Charger patrol vehicle that was pursuing him. The impact caused Goldston to spin out, and travel into a ditch, where his car overturned, coming to rest on its wheels.

Goldston was transported to Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield for evaluation then taken to the Johnston County Detention Center and charged with multiple offenses. The charges include fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon, driving on a revoked license, simple possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, aggressive driving, driving while impaired, injury to property, and resisting a public officer.

The Cadillac sustained approximately $10,000 in damages. It was seized under the NC Run and Done law.

The pursuing deputy was not injured. Damage to his patrol car was estimated at $400.

  1. So he PIT maneuvered himself? Unbelievable.

What is it about US 70 around Pine Level and Princeton that makes so many want to speed there?

  2. He should have to pay for the sheriff’s department vehicle and pay to fix the Cadillac so it can be sold at auction.

    • How do you know if he’s a Thug? what if this was your child that did this how would you feel if someone said the same thing about your child ? You wouldn’t be saying anything you would be trying to defend your child, we all make mistakes why knock people down when they make mistakes I bet you’ve made plenty of mistakes in your life how does it feel to hear someone talk down on you ?

  3. First, I would like to say thank God the Deputy was not injured. I would also like to say that thank God that no innocent people were injured or even killed by that animal going the wrong way at 100 mph. When Goldston to spun out, and traveled into a ditch, where his car overturned, I wish justice was served right there and then! This is the way I feel. This Pig Animal had no regard for the life of other people and I don’t give a hoot about his! Thank you, readers, for letting me get this off my chest.

  4. Let’s just thank God thank that Goldston and the deputy walked away from the scene in good hands. Why wish death on someone you don’t know what was going through his mind while he was being chased . God forgives EVERYBODY , even the ones that show hate . Just know when you mess with a child a God there is no winning for the devil at all, God does not play about his children (REMEMBER THAT) REPENT , PRAY, and LET GOD INTO YOUR HEARTS , I promise you will be more happier with your life instead of living in hate and negativity , PEACE & BLESSINGS 🩷
