Fireworks, Live Music Highlight Smithfield’s Independence Day Event

SMITHFIELD, N.C. – Downtown Smithfield will celebrate Independence Day with an evening of live music, family activities, fireworks and patriotic events on Friday, July 3.
The Downtown Smithfield Independence Day Celebration will take place from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. in downtown Smithfield and at the Neuse River Amphitheater. Admission is free.
This year’s event comes as communities across the country commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Activities will include a car show hosted by Southland Car Club and CarStar Autobody, local vendors, children’s games and activities, food and beverage vendors, and a community watermelon social featuring free slices of Johnston County-grown watermelon.
The celebration will begin with the presentation of colors by the Civil Air Patrol Color Guard. Revolutionary War reenactors will also participate, highlighting the nation’s founding as part of the semiquincentennial observance.
Live entertainment will be featured throughout the evening. Smithfield-based band The WEJ will open the concert lineup, followed by Stealing Tonight. BC Big Band will headline the event and perform leading up to the fireworks display.

A fireworks show is scheduled to begin at approximately 9:10 p.m.
“This year’s celebration is especially meaningful as we join communities across the nation in commemorating America’s 250th birthday,” said Heidi Gilmond, executive director of the Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation. “We’re proud to celebrate in a way that reflects the best of small-town America — bringing neighbors together for great music, family fun, local traditions and a shared appreciation for our country’s history.”
Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and spend the evening downtown.
