High-Speed Chase Ends In Rollover Crash

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — A 25-year-old man is in custody following a high-speed pursuit that ended in a rollover crash Monday evening in Johnston County.

The incident began around 7:25 p.m. near the Interstate 95 – Interstate 40 interchange in Benson, when a North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop the driver of a black Chrysler passenger car for speeding. According to authorities, the driver failed to yield and accelerated, initiating a pursuit.

The chase continued northbound on I-95 to Keen Road (Exit 87) in Four Oaks, where the suspect exited and traveled east. While approaching a curve just before U.S. 701, the driver lost control of the vehicle, ran off the roadway, and overturned multiple times in a farm field.

Troopers, assisted by Johnston County Sheriff’s Office deputies, took the driver into custody at the scene. The suspect, identified as a Wilmington, N.C. man, was evaluated by Johnston County EMS before being transported to the Johnston County Detention Center to face a long list of charges.

The Four Oaks Fire Department responded to assist with traffic control.
