I-95 Reopens Following Six Vehicle Crash

FOUR OAKS – A careless and reckless driver, swerving through heavy traffic on Interstate 95 Saturday morning, caused five cars and a tractor trailer to collide in a chain-reaction, rear-end accident near the 91.5 mile marker, on top of the Neuse River bridge.

The mishap occurred just before 9:30 in the southbound lanes near Four Oaks.

Authorities reported that 13 people were evaluated at the scene for minor injuries. One person was transported to an area hospital for further treatment.

Traffic on I-95 was heavily congested in both the north and southbound lanes along with all of the surrounding secondary roads, as a result of the accident.

Four Oaks and Smithfield Fire Departments along with ten ambulances, several State Highway Patrol Troopers and a fleet of wreckers were dispatched to the large accident scene.

The State Highway Patrol reported that the unidentified at-fault driver drove away from the accident. At last report they had not been located. None of the other drivers involved will face any charges.

The incident left a number of out-of-state travelers unexpectedly stranded in Johnston County.

  1. I hope they find the idiot that caused all this pain and trouble to the travelers. They are most likely local because they seem familiar with the roads. Truth will be told … amazing nobody was killed.
