Man Charged In Car Break-In Outside Walmart

A 20 year-old man was arrested by Smithfield Police and held on a $10,000 bond after a car break-in was reported Saturday, Feb. 27th at 3:17pm.  Officers responded to the parking lot at Walmart at 1299 N. Brightleaf Boulevard after a 34 year-old Pine Level man reported someone broke into his vehicle and stole $25 in cash and his cell phone.

Police said the suspect sold the stolen phone at an EcoATM machine inside Walmart.  The suspect, Jason Wain Bacott, of no known address, Smithfield was located nearby and arrested. 

Bacott was charged with felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle and felony obtaining property by false pretense. The stolen phone was recovered. The money was not found.
