Walter Russell “Rusty” Stanley

    Mr. Walter Russell “Rusty” Stanley, age 70, passed away Friday September 25, 2020 at his home in Panama City, Florida.

    Mr. Stanley was born October 21, 1949 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Walter J. and Verlie R. Stanley.

    Rusty was a graduate of Bay High School and Fayetteville State University. He served honorably in the United States Army including two tours in the Vietnam War where he received many commendations including the Purple Heart. Mr. Stanley retired as Captain of the Smithfield Police Department in which he served and protected the town of Smithfield, NC for 30 years. He was a lifetime member of the Pou Parrish American Legion Post 132. Rusty had a great love and respect for God and country.

    Surviving are his wife, Debra C. Stanley; three children, Walter Brian Stanley (Wynce), Russell Coley Stanley (Jennifer), Dana W. Daughtry (Haywood); three grandchildren, Cy Daughtry, Sef Stanley, Sydney Stanley; two brothers, Grady Stanley (Sharon) and Lonnie Stanley (Betsy).

    A memorial service with military honors will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma, NC. Reverend Rod Carpenter will officiate.
