Registered Sex Offender Linked To Early Morning Robbery

SELMA – A registered sex offender was arrested this morning (Monday) a short time after he reportedly robbed a Selma convenience store. Selma Police Chief W.M. “Billy” Thomas said officers were dispatched to a robbery at the E-Z Pass Mini Mart at 309 US Highway 70 at 1:03am today.

The clerk told police the suspect entered the business, produced a handgun, and stole undisclosed items.

The suspect, Jeremy Lee Holmes, age 33, of Smithfield, was captured a short time later at a motel on Mallard Road.

Holmes was charged with several offenses including armed robbery.

On August 1, 2022, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office charged Holmes with failure to report his new address as a sex offender, a condition of his parole. According to the NC Sex Offender Registry, Holmes was convicted in 2009 for felonious indecent exposure. He was out of jail on bond awaiting trial on the August 1 failure to report charge when he allegedly committed the early morning holdup.

Holmes was held at the Johnston County Jail under a $200,000 secured bond.
