Road Rage Fight Erupts After Driver Flips Middle Finger

SMITHFIELD – One person was treated at the emergency room after a road rage assault in Downtown Smithfield.

Smithfield Police said it happened around 8:30 Wednesday morning. A motorist had stopped for a stop sign at Second and Johnston Street near the Johnston County Courthouse.

A second driver stopped behind the car at the stop sign and reportedly thought the motorist had been waiting too long to go through the intersection. He is accused of blowing his car horn and giving the other driver the middle finger.

The first car pulled forward then stopped a short distance away.

The two drivers – both strangers – exited their vehicles and began fighting in the roadway.

Police responded and spoke with both individuals. The two men were advised to speak with a magistrate if they wished to pursue any criminal charges.

The names of those involved was not released.

    • Should have charged them with affray, which is a crime. Start charging more folks and maybe there will be less behavior like this. Entitlement on the roadway is at an all time high. Get over yourselves and be polite. Nobody is better than anyone else and your time is not more important than anyone else’s.
