SBI Agent Shot By Suspect In Reidsville, Listed In Stable Condition
REIDSVILLE, N.C. — A North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation agent is in stable condition after being shot in the leg Saturday while searching for a man accused of firing at Rockingham County sheriff’s deputies.
The incident began when deputies responded to a shots-fired call on Walker Street in Reidsville.
According to the SBI, Marvin D. White, 38, began shooting at deputies when they arrived and then ran from the scene.
The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the SBI to locate White and process the crime scene.
Investigators identified an area where they believed White may have been hiding.
During the search, an SBI Special Agent located White and ordered him to drop his weapon, according to the agency.
Instead, White allegedly fired at law enforcement and struck the agent in the leg.
The agent returned fire.
The wounded agent was transported to Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, where he was listed in stable condition.
The SBI has not released the agent’s name.
The wounded Special Agent is a 10-year veteran of the State Bureau of Investigation.
He serves on the SBI Special Response Team and is assigned to the agency’s Northern Piedmont District.
SBI Director Chip Hawley went to the hospital to be with the agent and his family following the shooting.
White was arrested at the scene.
The SBI said he will face multiple criminal charges.
The SBI said additional information will be released as the investigation continues.
