Spirit Of Nahunta Harvest Day Returns Sept. 26

PIKEVILLE, N.C. – The Spirit of Nahunta Harvest Day will return Saturday, Sept. 26, for an afternoon celebrating agriculture, local history and community traditions in northern Wayne County.

The bi-annual event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Nahunta Friends Meeting, 2537 N.C. 581 in Pikeville.

Admission is free.

The event will include live music on an outdoor main stage, with performances by local groups including the CBA Falconettes and Falconaires, 581 South and others.

Visitors will also find a country store designed as a throwback to earlier days, along with a pound cake contest and silent auction.

Travis Pittman is scheduled to speak about his trip to the White House last year and the turkeys that received a presidential pardon.

Nahunta native Justin Williams Pope will also be on hand to sign copies of his latest children’s book, Henry and Matilda’s Adventures Across America, Celebrating 250 Years!! The book is the sixth in the series.

A display of Native American artifacts will be featured during the event, along with a special program examining the role Native Americans played in how Nahunta received its name and the people who first lived in the area.

Food will be available for purchase throughout the day, including offerings from the Nahunta Fire Department and outside vendors.

Organizers say the event is intended to highlight the agricultural heritage and community spirit that have long shaped northern Wayne County.

The Spirit of Nahunta Harvest Day will be held 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Nahunta Friends Meeting, 2537 N.C. 581, Pikeville.
