West Johnston’s Ashton Tennessee Wins School’s First State Wrestling Title

BENSON — Junior Ashton Tennessee made school history, becoming the first wrestler from West Johnston High School to win a state championship.
Tennessee finished the season with an impressive 37-1 record and captured the NCHSAA 6A state title at 132 pounds, marking a milestone moment for the Wildcats wrestling program.
Competing in the NCHSAA 6A Wrestling State Championship, Tennessee capped off a dominant season with a performance that solidified his place in school history. He is the first West Johnston wrestler to earn a state championship since the school opened.
Coaches and supporters say his achievement reflects not only individual talent, but years of dedication and steady growth within the West Johnston program. His 37-1 record underscores a season defined by consistency, discipline and resilience on the mat.
For West Johnston High School, the title represents more than a medal — it signals a breakthrough moment for a program continuing to build its legacy.
